Mobility Project - Students from Lithuania

In May and June 2011 the organization ALVIT-innovation and education Ltd. was the receiving organization for 12 beneficiaries from Alytus Vocational Training Centre within the Leonardo da Vinci project entitled "International practice - greater career opportunities".

The students from Lithuania were trained in the field of electrical engineering as well as mechanical engineering and attended a two-week placement in these sectors in Ostrava city. Objectives were to extend their practical, professional skills, to acquire first work experiences and to get an impression about work and life in another European country.

The students were given a guided tour through Ostrava and thus they learned about the main sights of the city, its history and current developments and gained some insights into Czech traditions and culture.

The students were introduced to the ALVIT innovation and education centre, they also got to know their placement company autoSOMER, where they were introduced to the safety instructions in a workplace, the specific internship's terms and to the internship's guides.

The company AutoSOMER is a car service that specializes in repairement of cars, regular check-ups, diagnosis of motors, etc. There, the participants worked in laboratories for diagnosing car's electric equipment breakdown, tools resort of car's electric equipment diagnostic, etc. The students diagnosed and repaired internal combustion engines power system, they repaired cars and their parts. The students were divided into two groups according to their specialization.

The company of placement and the performance of each participant were checked upon and evaluated during the entire stay to ensure the outcome was to the satisfaction of everyone taking part in this program.

Besides practical training, the students attended Tatra car museum in Kopřivnice, where they got acquainted with historical types of cars. They also visited a typical village Štramberk, the middle age Tower, the Aquapark Ostrava and the "Ostrava volcano". The students also had an opportunity to attend an Asian banquet and enjoy paintball.

Before departure on June 8, 2011 an evaluation took place. The results of the placement were discussed and after handing out of the certificates, the group went back to Lithuania.


In the framework of this Leonardo da Vinci program all participants could gain important experiences in their field of study. They experienced the daily work in their future profession and could practice what they have learned at school in a professional sorrounding. All aims of placement were reached. Besides, they could develop their intercultural competences and improve their English language skills.

All participants were motivated and engaged so that the placement company and also we appreciated their performance. It was a pleasure hosting the friendly and motivated group. We wish them all the best and are sure that this stay helped them for a positive development of their future career.
